Dr. Michael Vazquez is a Teaching Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also serves as Associate Director of the Parr Center for Ethics. His research centers on ethics, education, and the cultivation of moral and intellectual virtues across the lifespan. He leads and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects that investigate how ethical and philosophical reflection shape character and attention, with a focus on intellectual virtues such as humility and curiosity. He is Principal Investigator of UNC’s Educating for the Virtues of Attention Project (2025–2028). In addition to his research and teaching, Dr. Vazquez works with K-12 schools, prisons, libraries, and retirement communities to foster ethical reflection and dialogue in diverse educational settings. He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania.
